The Miami Dolphins have released veteran wide receiver Tyreek Hill as part of sweeping roster changes aimed at achieving salary-cap compliance ahead of the 2026 NFL season, according to multiple reports published Monday. Hill, an eight-time Pro Bowl selection recovering from a season-ending knee injury suffered in September, becomes an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career following four seasons in Miami.
The decision is tied primarily to financial considerations. Releasing Tyreek Hill is expected to save the Dolphins roughly $22.8 million against the 2026 salary cap, a significant step for a team previously projected to be over the limit entering the new league year.
Tyreek Hill 2025 campaign ended after only four games when he sustained a dislocated knee and torn anterior cruciate ligament during a win over the New York Jets, an injury that required surgery and sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
The 31-year-old joined Miami in a 2022 trade from the Kansas City Chiefs and later signed a four-year, $120 million extension that briefly made him the league’s highest-paid receiver. During his tenure with the Dolphins, Hill produced elite seasons including a league-leading 1,799 receiving yards in 2023 and compiled thousands of receiving yards across four years with the franchise.
Miami’s roster overhaul also includes the reported release of pass rusher Bradley Chubb and other veterans as new leadership reshapes the team before the 2026 season.
