The Brooklyn Nets have waived guard Cam Thomas, ending a strained tenure following unsuccessful trade efforts and recurring injury concerns, according to multiple reports published Thursday. Thomas, 24, becomes an unrestricted free agent eligible to sign with any NBA team after averaging 15.6 points in limited appearances this season while missing significant time with a hamstring injury.

The decision follows months of uncertainty surrounding Cam Thomas role and health. He had signed a $5.9 million qualifying offer last summer after failing to secure a longer-term contract extension with Brooklyn, leaving the team without matching rights once he cleared waivers.

Despite leading the Nets in scoring during the 2023–24 season and again in limited action in 2024–25, Thomas’ value was affected by injuries, defensive limitations, and limited playmaking, factors that also reduced trade interest before the deadline.

This season, Cam Thomas appeared in 24 games, making eight starts while averaging 15.6 points, 3.1 assists, and 2.0 turnovers. He missed 20 games because of a hamstring injury that has recurred multiple times over the past two seasons.

Drafted 27th overall in 2021, Thomas holds career averages of 15.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists across 239 NBA games. He previously posted scoring averages above 22 points per game in consecutive seasons before injuries limited his availability.

Brooklyn’s roster reshaping continued at the trade deadline as the organization retained several frontcourt contributors and created salary-cap flexibility through recent transactions. Team officials expressed appreciation for Thomas’ scoring ability while signaling a broader rebuilding focus.

Cam Thomas now enters free agency with the ability to join a new team immediately, and potential landing spots are expected to emerge as clubs evaluate post-deadline roster needs.
