Milan, Italy — American ice hockey forward Hilary Knight is set to compete in her fifth Winter Olympics as captain of the United States women’s team, marking a historic milestone for the program and potentially the final Olympic appearance of her career. The tournament opens this week in Milan, with Knight leading a youthful roster while pursuing another gold medal, according to USA Hockey and event organizers.
Hilary Knight, 36, becomes the first U.S. hockey player, male or female, to appear in five Olympic Winter Games and has served as national team captain since the 2023 world championship. Her résumé includes one Olympic gold medal in 2018 and three silver medals, along with a record-setting career at the International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship.
Across world championship competition, Hilary Knight holds the all-time records for goals, assists and points and has accumulated more than a dozen medals, including 10 gold. She was also named the inaugural IIHF Female Player of the Year for the 2022–23 season after surpassing 100 career tournament points and extending multiple scoring records.
USA Hockey confirmed Knight as captain of the 2026 Olympic squad, with Alex Carpenter and Megan Keller serving as alternate captains, reinforcing her leadership role on a team that includes several younger and collegiate players.
