La Rouge

Origin: Suriname

Surinamese outfit La Rouge has been around for a long time and has always had a strong following who admire them for their excellent take on kaskawi, an explosive version of kawina music. Characteristic for kawina is a call and answer style of singing also seen in jazz and gospel. La Rouge adds to this a calypso-like rhythm, lots of percussion as well as touches of soca, salsa and merengue.
