Justus
Origin: None
At just 22, rising Dutch star Justus (aka Justus Schipper) looks set to have the world at his feet. The talented music producer and DJ has been touted by the likes of Tiësto, David Guetta, MORTEN, Afrojack, DVBBS, Carnage, W&W, Steve Aoki and many more. Now as he confirms rumours of a record deal with none other than Spinnin’ Records, the path looks clear for him to capitalise on his early promise and rise through the ranks to the highest levels of electronica.
As with any artist who manages to break through into the A-list elite, Justus’ success is in equal parts down to musical talent and laser-focused, at times dogged, determination to forge a career in dance music. An all-ages Afrojack show at Amsterdam’s legendary Ziggo Dome in 2014 opened the eyes of a then 14-year-old Justus to the explosive energy of an all-out, topflight electronic artist in full flow in front of a crowd of thousands. Mastering the DJ booth, Justus moved on to the studio, a natural affinity for music production backed up by six years’ practicing the drums. In 2017, the teenager took a bet on himself, leaving school behind and putting himself 100% into his music.
It was a move that more than paid off. Just one year later Justus had multiple tours through Asia under his belt, dropping incendiary sets at some of the best clubs in the world from DJ Mag’s revered Top 100 list as well as major shows across the Middle East and into Europe. By 2019 Justus had signed a publishing deal with influential Dutch publishing house Cloud9, home to some of the planet’s biggest DJs. This was followed by multiple releases on Spinnin’ Records, including his smash cover of Andrea Bocelli’s ‘Time To Say Goodbye’, currently standing at 3.5 million Spotify streams and counting.
With his productions winning him rave support from titanic names like Tiësto, David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Afrojack, Nicky Romero and more, it came as no surprise to fans and industry tastemakers alike when Spinnin’ Records confirmed their exclusive deal with Justus. The signing was yet another stamp of confirmation, one more indication that Justus is on a clear trajectory to the top. His new Spinnin’ single ‘Lightning Strikes’ with Gabry Ponte is currently lighting up airwaves and playlists, the Musical Freedom release ‘Tunnel’ set to carry on from that, his music continuing to build his reputation for sure-fire dance floor anthems. With media support from international heavyweights We Rave You, EDM Nomad and 1001 Tracklists, his ‘Justified Radio’ showing airing multiple times on Stateside mega-broadcaster SiriusXM, and a mammoth five exclusive live sets going out across 1001 Tracklists during lockdown to a global audience of fans, the hype and energy behind Justus unsurprisingly continues to grow.
As his sound starts to naturally mature and develop, Justus is absolutely hitting his stride as a producer and a performer, diving into a new vein of rhythm and groove that sits somewhere in the space between Tiësto-style Trance and Amelie Lens’ brand of Techno. With much, much more in the pipeline for 2022, it surely is an exciting time for fans of this talented Dutch youngster
