Sven Väth
Origin: Germany
Sven Väth (Obertshausen, October 26, 1964) is a German DJ and producer of electronic music. He is a three-time winner of the DJ Awards, and his career in electronic music spans more than 30 years. Sven was introduced to a wide range of music in the English pub his father opened. After a long vacation in Ibiza, his mother asked him to become a DJ in his father’s pub. Thus began his career at the age of 17. Just one year later, in 1982, Sven Väth was asked to play a residency at the club Dorian Gray in Frankfurt am Main. There he met Michael Münzing and Luca Anziloti and began music production. He became famous with the single ‘Electrica Salsa’ in 1986. Sven Väth, who is called ‘Papa Sven’ by his fans, has made his mark on the music community by being one of Germany’s pop stars in the 1990s, running two nightclubs in Germany and founding his own company Cocoon, which includes a booking agency, a record label and an events branch. He is recognized for cultivating the underground electronic music scene not only in Germany but also in Ibiza, with his own night at Amnesia for eighteen years and after-parties at creative venues all over the island. Sven Väth is a big proponent of vinyl and uses only two decks and a mixer for his extended DJ sets.
